Lost in Translation (podcast)

During clinical trials, patients are kept in the dark to protect against bias that could affect drug outcomes. Although patients should know nothing about the clinical drug products, they do need to know how to follow regimens. The number of global clinical trials is increasing, so language translation becomes vital where patient instructions need to be very clear. The information on the packaging is the last chance the pharmaceutical company has before the patient removes the medication to administer it. It is crucial that this information — along with the written materials about the drugs and devices or disease management — is not lost in translation. Otherwise, patients will become confused and make errors.

Mark Wade is the Life Sciences Global Practice Leader at Lionbridge Life Sciences. He has more than 15 years of sales and operations management experience in the life sciences industry.
