Is the CFWS test being changed for the new MPN competencies program that began in November 2010?
No, the test itself has not been modified.
If I'm an ISV and I pass this test, will I automatically achieve the Gold Competency Status?
No. The Advanced Competency status within the new MPN has several requirements; CFWs is just one of them. Please go to the MPN Competencies Site, select your required competency on the left and "Review the Requirements".
Can I use this test for a Silver Competency?
Yes. You may also use the Microsoft Partner Ready test for a silver competency. Please consult our Software Testing for Microsoft Competencies Chart.
If I cannot meet the other gold or silver requirements, will the Certified for Windows Server 2008 R2 logo test (CFWS) still have value for me?
Absolutely! This is the most prestigious logo offered by Microsoft, and it makes a powerful differentiating statement to the marketplace—meaning that you have been independently tested to meet the highest technical bar for stability, security, reliability, availability, Windows fundamentals, and platform compatibility. Benefits include:
- The right to display the prestigious "Certified for Windows Server 2008 R2" logo on websites and marketing materials
- A necessary step toward many Microsoft Gold Competencies
- Priority catalog listing and case study listing on Windows Server Catalog & Marketplace
- Reduced support calls and quality issues
I'm having trouble finding the revenue requirements for gold competencies.
You can find out more at
https://partner.microsoft.com/global/program/competencies/40149294
It's worth reading carefully: Note that "...Partners need to commit to delivering a minimum Microsoft revenue amount based on their respective geography and competency. Revenue may be directly transacted or influenced. In some competencies revenue is identified as solution or design wins. Beginning October 2011, Microsoft will begin to measure actual attainment and partners will need to meet the revenue commitment by their next re-enrollment date after October 2012."
If I take the CFWS test, can I claim 50 partner points and call myself a "Gold Certified Partner"?
No, the Gold Certified Partner program was eliminated October 31, 2010.
You may always, of course, market the fact that your application has achieved "Certified" status, and place the "Certified for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2" logo on you website and marketing materials. When you achieve "Gold Competency" status, you may market that as well.
I'm having trouble finding "Selling ISV" requirements on the MPN pages, only "VAR" or "Non-Selling ISV" requirements.
Selling ISVs (who both resell Microsoft solutions and build software) can choose to qualify through VAR or Non-Selling ISV tracks. If qualifying through VAR track, CFWS is recommended, but not required. (see above)
Where can I access the "Business Assessments" for the Gold Competencies?
