MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 10, 2009 – FalconStor Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: FALC), the provider of TOTALLY Open™ data protection solutions, today announced that one of its customers, Lionbridge Technologies Inc., (Nasdaq: LIOX) was honored by IDG's InfoWorld 100 Awards as implementing one of the top 100 IT projects of 2009. Lionbridge was recognized for its innovative use of FalconStor® Network Storage Server (NSS) with Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 to create a dynamic, fully virtualized data center that dramatically reduces the high cost of storage and delivers 99.97 percent data availability for its employees worldwide.
The InfoWorld 100 Awards recognize the 100 most innovative uses of IT initiatives to further business goals. The selection is based on the excellence and quality of the work environment. "This year's recipients of InfoWorld's highest honor are shining examples of IT projects undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organizations forward," said Jason Snyder, features editor, InfoWorld.
Lionbridge Technologies provides translation, testing and development solutions for more than 500 global companies and has operations in over 26 countries. The company's primary business is translating software (including user interfaces), and web content into multiple languages to meet its clients' global market requirements. Lionbridge uses FalconStor NSS to virtualize more than 100 terabytes of storage in a Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 environment, supporting more than 4,500 employees worldwide. FalconStor NSS enabled Lionbridge to eliminate storage vendor lock-in and seamlessly integrate heterogeneous storage arrays into the FalconStor NSS-managed storage area network (SAN).
"The FalconStor solution allows the Lionbridge IT team to operate a truly vendor-agnostic virtualized pool of storage, making full use of available disk space while enabling us to scale capacity on the fly," said Frank Smith, manager of corporate IT core infrastructure at Lionbridge Technologies. "With FalconStor NSS managing our storage, we could buy the most dependable, block-level storage at the best price – which saved us $450,000 on a single major storage expansion."
FalconStor NSS simplified Lionbridge's storage management significantly, allowing the IT team to manage different types of storage from one application. In addition, FalconStor NSS provides integrated data protection, cost-effective disaster recovery (DR) and the ability to immediately recover from server failure. Using FalconStor NSS, Lionbridge consolidated storage for all of its offices worldwide. Local offices rarely retain their own file services but instead consolidate in a virtualized cloud computing data center environment. Data availability now reaches 99.97 percent – a 300 percent increase – and the company's storage infrastructure has reached 99.99 percent availability.
"The InfoWorld 100 award is a testament to Lionbridge's understanding of how important data availability is for its employees," said Fadi Albatal, vice president of product marketing for FalconStor. "FalconStor NSS helps our customers make the most out of server virtualization by enabling full data mobility across a heterogeneous storage infrastructure to improve performance and availability while slashing storage acquisition and ongoing management costs."
FalconStor NSS technology integrates storage virtualization and provisioning across multiple disk arrays and connection protocols for a scalable SAN solution. By virtualizing storage on any disk array, FalconStor NSS lets companies like Lionbridge pool and tier their disk assets, simplifying provisioning, reducing allocation errors and maximizing resource utilization.
