  • Lionbridge Provides Localization Services for the Well Project; Freeway Language Platform Enables Multilingual Web Content for the Support of Women with HIV and AIDS

Lionbridge Collaborates with Industry-Leading Content Management Providers to Connect and Educate Women Nationwide Through an Online Community

WALTHAM, Mass., August 15 — Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LIOX), a leading provider of globalization and offshoring services, today announced that it is localizing the web site for The Well Project Inc., a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to change the course of the HIV/AIDS pandemic through a unique focus on women. With an integrated solution consisting of Lionbridge's Freeway™ internet-based language platform, Documentum content management technologies and Lionbridge translation services, the website, http://www.thewellproject.org, will be maintained in domestic Spanish with expansion into additional languages as the project progresses. The new Spanish language site was unveiled today at the 16th International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada.

"The Well Project has realized that one of the fastest growing populations of women with AIDS and HIV is in the Spanish speaking community," said Richard Averitt, chief operating officer, The Well Project. "As the industry leader in technology-enabled language services, Lionbridge continues to be a valuable partner as we create a solution to translate, manage and maintain content on our website. With the help of Lionbridge, the Spanish speaking community now has access to the vast array of information about the prevention and treatment of this disease."

To enable seamless, up-to-date information in both English and Spanish, Lionbridge worked with The Well Project and a systems integrator, Armedia, to develop a seamless link between The Well Project's Documentum content technologies and Freeway, Lionbridge's translation management system. This solution enables automated routing of updated content in English to Freeway, providing a fast and simple solution for maintaining an up-to-date Spanish website.

The Freeway solution also automates many of the manual tasks involved in the multilingual content management process including job submission, delivery, and re-delivery of content assets. As a result, the site can be maintained across languages without requiring human interaction. Future plans include expanding the support languages to include French for West Africa, and Russian for the countries of the former Soviet Union, areas hard hit by the AIDS epidemic.

"Providing this information to the Spanish speaking community is critical in the ongoing education about HIV and AIDS. We are delighted to be part of this program," said Rory Cowan, CEO of Lionbridge. "By automatically integrating translation as part of the overall content management workflow, we are able to ensure that Spanish content is always in-synch with the English site. As a result, people across many backgrounds and cultures can gain access to critical information about preventing and addressing AIDS. This is a powerful example of the ability of technology to profoundly impact people's lives."

The Well Project's mission is to reduce the total human cost of the HIV/AIDS pandemic through a unique and comprehensive focus on women. The organization is working to develop new resources to educate, nurture, and support the community of HIV+ women, their caregivers, and their health care providers.
